Nourish and rejuvenate with a signature massage at Yoga Tree Stanyan or Valencia.
Massage is no longer considered a luxury; it is widely accepted as necessary preventative medicine for overall self care. Let our talented therapists work with you on your specific needs. You will leave feeling relaxed, relieved of tight muscles and ready to continue your life revived! Our bodies are our foundations; when we honor and celebrate them with the enhancement of massage we are more able to be conscious and productive in all aspects of our lives.
ACUPRESSURE:
Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body’s natural self-curative abilities. When these points are pressed, they release muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body’s life force to aid healing. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points, but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses the gentle but firm pressure of hands (and even feet).
ABHYANGA:
A traditional form of massage in India, this massage softens and lubricates the tissues of the body. Long stimulating strokes using warm individually tailored massage oil (available for purchase at Yoga Tree) really get the Lymphatic (Immune) and Circulatory Systems moving. This massage is a must for active, as well as degenerating bodies.
CRANIAL SACRAL:
Nurtures and supports the nervous system, brain and spinal cord through a series of gentle sustained contacts that release tension, ease pain and allow the body to get in tune with itself. Especially beneficial for chronic pain, post traumatic stress, tinnitus, vertigo and headaches. Patients are fully clothed.
DEEP TISSUE:
Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The massage therapist uses slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. Deep tissue massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. People often feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage.
HOT STONE:
Heated, smooth stones are placed on certain points on the body to warm and loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers in the body. The massage therapist may also hold stones and apply gentle pressure with them. The warmth is comforting. Hot stone massage is good for people who have muscle tension but prefer lighter massage.
POLARITY:
A technique of gently rocking, holding and massaging to stimulate relaxation, restore energy flow and encourage revitalization.
PRENATAL:
Also called pregnancy massage, prenatal massage is becoming increasingly popular with expectant mothers. Prenatal massage helps to reduce stress, decrease swelling, relieve aches and pains, and reduce anxiety and depression. The massage is customized to a woman’s individual needs.
REFLEXOLOGY:
Although reflexology is sometimes called foot massage, it is more than simple foot massage. Reflexology involves applying pressure to certain points on the foot that correspond to organs and systems in the body. Reflexology is very relaxing.
REIKI:
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being.
SHIATSU:
Shiatsu is a form of Japanese bodywork that uses localized finger pressure in a rhythmic sequence on acupuncture meridians. Each point is held for 2 to 8 seconds to improve the flow of energy and help the body regain balance. People are normally pleasantly surprised when they try shiatsu for the first time. It is relaxing yet the pressure is firm, and there is usually no soreness afterwards.
SPORTS:
Sports massage is specifically designed for people who are involved in physical activity. But you don’t have to be a professional athlete to have one––it’s also used by people who are active and work out often. The focus isn’t on relaxation but on preventing and treating injury and enhancing athletic performance.
SWEDISH:
Massage therapists use long smooth strokes, kneading, and circular movements on superficial layers of muscle using massage lotion or oil. Swedish massage therapy can be very gentle and relaxing. If you’ve never had massage before, this is a good one to try first.
THAI MASSAGE:
Thai massage is a type of massage in Thai style that involves stretching and deep massage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement. No oils are used in Thai massage.
TRIGGER POINT:
Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Sometimes massage and trigger point therapy are performed together.
