  • For thousands of years yogis and Ayurvedic practitioners have been using yoga to promote health and wellbeing. It has long been known that yogic practices can greatly complement traditional western medicine by helping the body to find it’s natural ability to heal. The Yoga Tree Advanced Teacher Training Therapeutic major is designed to help teachers gain the skills necessary to work with other healthcare providers in developing safe, effective and responsible yoga sequences that complement care given by doctors, physical therapists and other healthcare providers.

The various trainings and intensives in this major will explore the ways in which yoga can benefit a wide variety of injuries and medical conditions all with a scope of practice appropriate for a yoga teacher. Students will have the opportunity to focus on specific conditions and injuries as well as to take a broader view of yogic healing. All course work is rooted in both scientific literature as well as thousands of years of tradition.

Note: Yoga is not a replacement for proper medical or psychiatric care. Yoga teachers never diagnoses or offer a prognosis or give advice about medical or psychiatric conditions. This training is designed for teachers who want to work in conjunction with other professionals only.

The 50-hour Advanced Core Studies is a requirement under all majors.

  • Although yoga is often taught and practiced for its physical benefits, yoga was originally designed to explore and balance the mind. The Yoga Tree Advanced Teacher Training Psychology and Yoga major is designed to bridge the gap between modern western psychology and the ancient yoga psychology outlined in texts such as the Yoga Sutras.

Because yoga, meditation and other practices are not a replacement for the work offered by psychologists, psychiatrists and other professions, the various trainings and intensives in this major will explore the ways in which yoga can complement and augment western psychology and medicine. You will have the opportunity to better understand mental and emotional health and wellness. Whether you want to better understand addiction, trauma, mental illness or somatic psychology more broadly, this major is a great way to better understand the mind-body connection and how we, as yoga teacher, can best support our students.

The various trainings and intensives in this major will explore everything from yoga in the childbearing years, to menopause and yoga in latter part of life. You will also have the opportunity to better understand the role of yoga in addressing issues that disproportionately affect women such as body dysmorphia, domestic violence and certain forms of trauma.

The 50-hour Advanced Core Studies is a requirement under all majors.
