I started practicing yoga while cold and depressed in New York City. Initially simply looking for a workout, I found myself profoundly changed by the practice, and that improvement to my body and outlook led me to an alignment-based yoga teacher training (in a warmer, calmer city). Before finding yoga, I had a grounding in movement study from more than a decade of practice of Chinese martial arts. From that baseline discipline, a love of subtle detail and hard work was fostered and transferred to the practice of yoga. I study and teach biomechanics and alignment and their mutual influence on the other. My practice with alignment-focused teachers is supplemented by study of anatomy and kinesiology. My classes are vigorous, detail-oriented, and good-humored. From my students, I expect rigor, caution, attentive listening and watching, and thoughtful questions.
