Teen Yoga Teacher Training: Youth Elevate! with Dana Damara

We all know the importance of academic success in our society… but what about social and emotional learning? What about teaching our children to take a breath before they speak? Or harnessing their thoughts? Or moving their bodies for optimal health? And for girls, in particular, self-respect, self-awareness, self-love? The teen yoga teacher training program, Youth Elevate!, is dedicated to bringing this kind of learning to middle and high school adolescents via the yoga community. The programs aim to instill empowerment, nurture tolerance, empathy, and compassion in all children, regardless of sex, race, socioeconomic status or religion.
The key components are yoga, mindfulness, social & emotional learning, and empowerment.

MODULE ONE
June 25-27

Social/Emotional Learning for Our Youth: Teaching Middle School & High School Children, ages 12-18

Learn how to share your love of yoga with teens and step forward as a leader in your community. Adolescents are our future; they will become the leaders of our nation. The role of facilitators of this program is to support teens in knowing who they are, nurturing their self-esteem, supporting self-awareness, and cultivating compassion. In this course, participants will be supported in bringing that message to adolescents in the public school system, the private sector, and even clubs or after school community programs.

Participants will learn how to:
• Yoga postures & sequencing for teens
• Social/emotional learning
• How to work with teens
• How to bring this work into the schools
• Activities for optimal learning
• Weekly curriculum/agendas on how to create your class

MODULE TWO
June 28-30

Empowering Sisterhood in Teenage Girls: Teaching Middle School & High School Girls, ages 12-18

Learn how to support girls through one of the toughest times in their lives. With social media running rampant and girls being tested on their self-worth and value system, judged around every corner in every second, our role is to remind girls how amazing they are. That what they have to say is important. That a tribe of loyal girlfriends is powerful and potent. That the sacredness of their bodies, minds, and hearts is a tool that heals all and can make change in the world. Support these young women in remembering who they are and stepping out into the world with purpose, power, and passion.

Participants will learn how to:
• Create sisterhood
• Teach self-empowerment tools
• Share sacred rituals for teens
• Develop after-school programs, camps, and retreats

Topics of focus include:
• Foundational Values
• Friendships & Relationships
• Confidence & Leadership Techniques
• Positive Body Image
• Sacred Sexuality
• Truth Telling
• Compassion & Empathy
• Being Uniquely You
• Honesty & Integrity
• Using Your Intuition

Upon completion of each 20-hour teen yoga teacher training module and 10 hours of volunteer work (Seva), students will receive a certificate to lead teen yoga classes in the Youth Elevate format. Each module may be taken independently of the other; however, participation in both modules is encouraged so there is a clear understanding of the teenage culture from as many sides as possible. This in and of itself will support training participants who move on to teaching teen yoga toward being successful.

Each program includes lecture, integration, testing, and internship before a facilitator can fully launch utilizing the Youth Elevate/Girls Elevate curriculum and using the brand name of the program.

It is strongly recommended that participants have attended a 200-hour yoga teacher training; however, it is not mandatory as the program offers easy postural clinics on how to teach postures and simple yogic philosophy tools.

Secondarily, it is asked that participants have at least 4 years experience with the practice of yoga so there is familiarity with the basic teaching before sharing in a school setting. If you do not meet any of these requirements, please email Dana to receive an Intro to Yoga Basics packet at danamdamara@gmail.com.

These hours are available for credit in either the Yoga Tree 300-hr Teacher Training or Dana Damara’s Embodied Truth 300-hr Teacher Training.
